Applying to the M-EID Program

You must apply to both the Montana – Ecology of Infectious Diseases (M-EID) Traineeship Program (Phase I) and the PhD program of your choice (Phase II) separately.
January 10, 2008 is The Montana - Ecology of Infectious Disease (M-EID) Application acceptance deadline for Fall 2008.Phase I: Application materials for the Montana - Ecology of Infectious Disease (M-EID) Traineeship Program.
M-EID Requirements
- GPA 3.0 or greater.
- Notice: U.S. citizenship is required for National Science Foundation IGERT Traineeships. Limited funding may be available for non-residents.
Complete the online application, which includes the following material to be uploaded:
- A curriculum vitae.
- Please respond to the following statement in essay form. The essay should be no longer than 3 pages, with 12 point font and double-spaced.
"The Montana - Ecology of Infectious Disease (M-EID) IGERT program has the goals of promoting interdisciplinary research addressing complex problems associated with the ecology of infectious diseases and developing strong collaborative and communication skills in M-EID Trainees."
** Note: The essay should describe why this graduate training would aid you to reach your professional goals. Also, list the strengths you bring to the program and areas in which you hope to develop as a result of participating in this program.
- An example of what you consider your best “work” from any activity. The example may be a paper, an original work of art, a computer program, or some other form of media. ( Can be submitted in hard copy form. )
Required hard copy forms:
- Undergraduate and Graduate offical transcripts.
- Three letters of recommendation.

Phase II: Academic Program Application.
Please Note: You are encouraged to apply to more than one relevant PhD Program since acceptance may be competitive.Select a relevant PhD program to which to apply. The selected program of study will be critical in determining what courses and examinations are required for your program. All students will also be required to complete the M-EID core (15-25 credits). The participating programs of study are:
- Computer Science
- Mathematics
- Integrative Microbiology and Biochemistry
- Organismal Biology and Ecology
- Wildlife Biology
- Individualized Interdisciplinary Program (IIP)
Complete the online application to the graduate school, which includes the following materials:
- GRE scores (note that the Biology subject test is required for Organismal Biology and Ecology)
- TOEFL Examination scores (International Students only, see here for other requirements).
- $45.00 application fee.
Include any additional application materials required by your selected PhD program of study.
Mail complete hard copy Montana - Ecology of Infectious Disease (M-EID) Traineeship Program Application Packet containing both Phases I and II to:
