DBS Seminar Date: Thursday, November 5th - 4:10pm Speaker: Dr. Alan Mark, Emeritus Professor, University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand Topic: “New Zealand biogeography and ecology: the influence of geological and climatic history on a global hotspot of endemic biodiversity” Dr. Mark was recently awarded a knighthood for his lifetime contributions to conservation and ecology in New Zealand and has published extensively on the ecology and natural history of New Zealand. Please come and participate in this campus-wide international event. Postdoctoral position at IBM in modeling viral epidemiology Almaden Research Center invites applications for a postdoctoral appointment to conduct research in modeling viral epidemiology, to begin in 2009. Candidates should have a Ph.D. or higher-level experience in either Epidemiology, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Biology, or an appropriate medical research field. Applicants should have an interest in mathematical modeling of infectious disease. Applicants should have knowledge of Epidemiology (to the level of Anderson and May) with skills in nonlinear differential equations, as well as a practical knowledge of java programming. The appointment is for one year, with possibility of renewal for one additional year.
