The research conducted by M-EID Trainees will focus on two general research areas (RA) that will address significant questions in disease ecology:

RA-1: The distribution of disease-causing organisms in the landscape

RA-2: The effect of infection on both host and microbe

These RA encompass different temporal and spatial scales and different levels of biological organization. Trainees will be encouraged to develop experimental systems that may be laboratory-based, mesocosm/common garden systems, or computer-based that will be useful in investigating relationships and mechanisms that can be obscured by the complexity in a natural system.
